ELAP Engineering was founded in the 1970’s from a small workshop in Accrington and was the first company in the world to develop the rotating car seat concept, which enjoyed patent protection for many years. The rotating car seat is an ideal solution, enabling you to get in and out of your vehicle with dignity and ease. Since then, Elap has grown continuously and offers a wide range of products and services.
Elap specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of mobility products to assist your independence. From the moment you contact ARC we will hand-hold you through the process of choosing the right product, having your product installed, and familiarisation. Wheelchairs
We stock a range both transit and self-propelled wheelchairs all at competitive prices and our inhouse Physiotherapist and equipment specialist will carry out a free assessment to make sure you get exactly what is right for your needs.

Walkers & mobility aids
Whether it’s a simple walking stick or a wheeled walker, come along and see what we have to offer. We can also provide a free physiotherapy assessment (booking required).
Rise recline chairs
If you require a little bit of luxury and want a lovely chair that will assist you to stand or lie back to take a rest, then come along to see what we can offer. We also provide chairs with Microban coverings which can be easily cleaned. Single and dual motor chairs available as well as fixed seat arm chairs.
Bedroom
We have several profiling beds available for purchase or hire and our mattresses are suitable for those at low, medium or high risk of developing pressure ulcers. We also stock bed table and cradles and a range of in bed liners and incontinence aids. Come along and see our range of ceiling track, mobile and standing hoists. We offer free clinical assessments by our in-house physiotherapist for all our hoists and sling choices.
Bathroom
From a simple long handled bathing brush for those hard to reach areas, to hand-controlled bath seats we have a wide range of aids available to make life in the bathroom easier. We stock (and install) grab rails, and we also stock raised toilet seats, commodes and toilet frames.
Kitchen & Garden
Everyone likes kitchen gadgets! Come along to see our special angled easy to hold cutlery, kettle tippers, easy to use chopping boards and our fantastic collection of Ornarmin hot/cold plates and dishes. We stock easy to use lightweight garden tools to make gardening fun and achievable, no lugging around those heavy spades!
Dementia friendly
The island’s largest stockist of Dementia Friendly items; from therapy dolls and pets to games and easy bathing aids. We stock, easy to use clocks, safety glass wine glasses and beer glasses, reminiscence books and activities as well as comfort aprons and fiddle twiddlers.
Due to the large amount of work ARC undertakes within the community, we sometimes have to close at certain periods during the day, so to avoid disappointment please ring ahead to make an appointment to pop along and browse through our shop.
